Frequently Asked Questions

What are puck lights used for?

Puck lights are small, round fixtures that provide focused illumination in specific areas. They are often used for under cabinet lighting, accent lighting in shelving or closets, task lighting in workspaces, and to highlight features such as countertops, displays, or artwork.

How do I choose the right puck lights for my space?

Choosing puck lights means thinking about where you want light and how intense it should be. Smaller spaces like under cabinets or inside closets benefit from a few closely placed lights. Larger areas or work surfaces may require more lights spaced evenly to ensure consistent illumination.

Can puck lights be used for both ambient and task lighting?

Yes. Puck lights serve well as accent lighting to draw attention to specific areas or objects, and they also work effectively as task lighting when directed onto work surfaces, countertops, desks, or other areas where clear light is needed.

What type of bulbs do puck lights use?

Many modern puck lights use LED technology because it provides bright, consistent light with low energy use. LED puck lights are long lasting, run cool, and are ideal for areas where lighting is needed for extended periods.

Where should puck lights be installed?

Puck lights are often installed under cabinets, inside shelving units, in closets, or above work areas. The key is to place them where they illuminate the surface you want lit without creating harsh shadows or glare.

Are puck lights easy to install?

Puck lights typically mount easily with screws or clips and connect to a power source, making installation straightforward in many cases. Some systems use plug-in power, while others connect to existing wiring. For hardwired setups, professional installation ensures safe and proper wiring.

Do puck lights add decorative value to a space?

Yes. In addition to providing functional illumination, puck lights enhance the look of cabinetry, displays, and architectural details. Their compact size and focused light help create layers of light that add depth and atmosphere to a room.

How do I maintain puck lights?

Puck lights need minimal maintenance. Wiping the surface of the fixtures to remove dust and checking that the bulbs or LED modules remain bright keeps the lighting looking its best. LED puck lights require less frequent bulb changes because they last a long time.

Can puck lights be dimmable?

Many puck lights can be used with dimmable LED bulbs or paired with compatible dimmer switches and controls. This lets you adjust the brightness to suit mood, task, and ambience.

Do puck lights work well in kitchens and workspaces?

Yes. Puck lights provide clear illumination for food preparation, cooking, homework areas, and other task oriented spaces. Their focused light helps reduce shadows and improves visibility, making activities easier and more enjoyable.
